Night Shadows: Four Urban Fantasy Short Stories by Martin Anders

Night Shadows, a four-story Urban Fantasy short story collection, is now available, just in time for spooky season.

This collection leans toward the darker, grittier side of Urban Fantasy. The theme is creatures walk among us with a dash of nightmares lurk in the shadows thrown in for good measure. Each story takes place in a major US city (Atlanta, Detroit, Chicago, and New York) with the action occurring at night. As a bonus, each story also features a winged creature from mythology or folklore.

Here are the four stories:

"A Good Demon Hunter Is Hard to Find." While on a temp job as a shotgun priest along Atlanta's warded Rim, demon hunter Quin runs into more trouble than she bargained for. (A finalist in the 2025 Baen Fantasy Adventure Award.)

"Menagerie." When Autumn Blackmore inherits her estranged great-uncle’s estate, she discovers it comes with an unexpected, and dangerous, responsibility: protecting the fragile souls of magical creatures.

"Rumors of My Demise." The cracked heart tattoo on Ryan Zabriski's arm was meant to be a memorial, until he wakes up with his own obituary scrawled in ink around it.

"Writ in Stone." After being awakened from a centuries-long slumber trapped in stone, ancient warrior Rafael prowls the streets of Queens, hunting for enough magic to free his brothers before his enemies can use it against him.
